The kids have made tremendous strides towards the creation of our show these first couple days of camp!

On Day #1, we each got to know each other a little by playing many, MANY games as well as exercising our imagination. Whether it be portraying adverbs with the game “In the Manner of the Word” or brainstorming with the “BCC magic tarp thing,” these children have proven to be incredibly creative. Our campers also found themselves in the dance studio, learning a fun combo to “Dance the Night Away” by Dua Lipa (from the Barbie Movie!) However, our silly dance class eventually became a group collaboration, in which each student helped incorporate their own dance moves to build the choreography.

As for the rest of Day #1, our campers also learned -not one- but TWO songs; “A Million Dreams” from the Greatest Showman and “Seize the Day” from Newsies. They sound fantastic!

Day #2 began with a relaxing pool day, in which campers were able to swim, make friendship bracelets, and enjoy some fun in the sun.

After a morning by the pool, we quickly began brainstorming ideas for our musical. Using different objects we had observed throughout the day, the campers created a story surrounding bugs, purple fungus, and -of course- Saturn!

Remember, tomorrow is PJ day, so come in your Pajamas (NO SLIPPERS PLEASE), and we can’t wait for another day of KidsAct!

Hi there! We are so excited to begin Session #1 of 2024’s KidsAct! Summer Camp, and we are thrilled to welcome all of your students to our new location, Berkshire Community College!

KidsAct! Summer Camp is an exciting, fun opportunity for students ages 7-11 to create and perform an original devised musical. Through theatre games and other fun activities, students can be free to explore their love for singing, dancing and acting. At KidsAct! Summer Camp, we foster a positive, creative, and fun environment where students can be free to perform and express themselves. 

This blog will serve as a space to document photos and videos of what is learned each week and provide general information for each summer session, so please be sure to check this website (and your email) as well as our Instagram @educationbsc for updates! 

Because of our new location, we are now able to have pool days, our first of which will be Tuesday, June 25th. If your child requires flotation devices, please bring them to camp as well as sunscreen and a change of clothes. Additionally, each Wednesday of camp, we will be having a themed day. This Wednesday, June 26th, will be Pajama Day, so please come to camp in your coziest PJ’s (NO SLIPPERS PLEASE)!

Barrington Stage Company’s Education Program has been busy busy busy this summer, having completed 3 riveting performances from our KidsAct! Program. Well, now the tides have turned and the Teens have taken over!

With maybe one of their most ambitious undertakings yet, participants of TeensAct! have been working since last week on a fabulously exciting and musically enthralling piece, set in a mystical woodland town with rivaling families, young love, and… evil snails?!

This is a Don’t Miss Performance for sure and one that the campers and staff are so excited to share with you all! Friday, 8/18 at 2pm, come to the church and celebrate a wonderful show!

Hello All! It’s hard to believe that KidsAct is already coming to a close!! We have been working so hard on our devised historical fiction show. It has original songs, dances, and even some Australian flightless birds. We hope to see you at our show tomorrow at 2:00 (we recommend arriving around 1:45 to get seated and settled before the show starts). Hello! We hit the ground running on devising this week. So far we have devised our first few scenes, a movement piece, and are working on our music for the show! A few of us are doing solos in our songs and we have some featured movers in our movement piece! Devising is hard work, but we have been breaking it up with lots of games and activities.

P.S. Tomorrow is pizza day! If your camper would like pizza, there’s no need to pack a lunch tomorrow, just a water bottle and snack.

Hello! KidsAct is off to a great start! So far, we’ve been getting to know one another and playing lots of games. We learned about pantomime and improv, as well as having a music class with Miss Gaylan! We sang “Waiting on a Miracle” from Encanto and “Consider Yourself” from Oliver. We are settling into camp and getting to know our group through of all our activities. We also started devising our show today. We are creating a story based off of the color black and the idea of writing a book. So far we have a cast of magical characters to explore and lots of ideas for our show. Tomorrow is Pajama Day so feel free to come in your comfiest attire (still ready to move and play, of course)! See you all tomorrow!

Hello all! We have been having a very busy and exciting week here at KidsAct! We’ve been learning pantomime, improv, music, and dance, all while devising our show, Animart (Animal Walmart). We have also had fun playing Park Bench, Woosh, and pretending to be baked potatoes. We have some pictures from our adventures this week below! Our show is coming along wonderfully and we can’t wait to see what week 2 brings!

Hello! We are so excited to see you all and to get started with KidsAct! We have been preparing for your arrival here at BSC and have some awesome things planned. A few reminders before camp begins:

• Don’t forget to pack lunch, a snack, and bring a towel or blanket in case we sit outside during lunch. 
• Wear comfortable shoes and clothes! We will be doing a lot of movement at camp.
• Wednesdays are THEME DAYS! Our themes for Session One are Crazy Hair/Hat Day on Wednesday June 28th and Character Day on Wednesday July 5th
• There will be NO CAMP on Tuesday July 4th
