Last Day of TeensAct!

I can’t believe that it’s already the last day of TeensAct! It’s been SUCH a fun session. The campers have been so creative, so excited, and so full of ideas and silliness. It’s even more meaningful this year because we’re finally back together again, making strange and zany theatre, playing wacky games, and wearing weird wigs!

Thank you so much for spending the past three weeks with us. We are so grateful to our TeensAct! community and so PROUD of the amazing play that they created together!!

The last week of camp!

We have officially entered our final week of TeensAct! Our campers and counselors finished writing the play today, and they’re rehearsing to get it ready to share with you all on Friday! Don’t forget to check your emails from Barrington Stage for more details on the final performance.

Today, we took our all-camp photos!

We had so much fun rehearsing our show- we’re really proud of it!

Tomorrow, a few campers are going to help Jane find costumes and props! Everything is coming along. We can’t wait to see you on Friday at 2PM!

End of Week 2!

WOW! It’s been an amazing and PACKED week! We are so excited to share that our play is almost finished. We’ve worked really hard all week on it- if you can call singing, dancing, and creating a play about an alien encounter “work.”

We can’t wait for you to see our final play, which will even feature a dance choreographed by two of our campers, Fiona and Mai! The final performance will be on Friday, July 16th at 2PM! More information forthcoming in your email on Monday.

For a little teaser…get ready to meet the citizens of AppleRiver! I’m SURE nothing WEIRD or SUSPICIOUS will happen to them!

TeensAct! Week Two!

Happy Monday, everyone! We had a great day of camp today, and we’re looking forward to an exciting week.

Today, we welcomed a new camper! We played lots of games, and we started devising scenes and doing improvisation around some of the themes that we talked about last week. We’re starting to figure out what we want our play to be about!

Happy Friday!

It’s been a wonderful first week of TeensAct! We’ve had such a great time playing games and making theatre and singing with your teens. We’re looking forward to having another great week next week!

The Week in Review:

We learned how to create Commedia-style characters with Sam, and we did creative movement!

Wednesday was WACKY WEDNESDAY!

Rainy days will never stop us from doing silly dances at TeensAct!

We always create a group agreement in our first week of camp to help us figure out how we want to work together!

How we want to treat each other and be treated at camp!

We did plenty of scenework and improv!

Finally, we are here to make a play to perform at the end of camp! On Friday, we started brainstorming about our play.

Where should our play take place? On a volcano, of course!

It’s been a fantastic week, and we can’t wait to see you again on Monday between 8:30 and 9AM!

Welcome to TeensAct!

It’s our first day of camp!

We had a fantastic first day of TeensAct! We’re so happy to be back and making theatre, singing songs, and doing improv together at beautiful Miss Hall’s School.

We started out our day with warm-ups led by Chynna, followed by some getting to know you games and icebreakers led by Jane and Sam! We also created our group agreement to decide how we want to work together over the next three weeks to create our play.

For Music with Gaylan, we learned Somewhere Over the Rainbow!

It’s always useful to start music with a good stretch!

After lunch and some free play time, we had an improv workshop with Sam, and we devised some short scenes with Jane.

Lots of fun, physical improv and ensemble building games!

For this first week, we’ll be experimenting with a bunch of different forms of theatre making! We’ll be diving into some Commedia techniques with Sam, long-form improv with Jane, and clowning and pantomime.

We’re excited to have three weeks with your teens instead of our usual two- there is so much that we can do with time, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what creative and silly work comes out of TeensAct! this year.

Some announcements for the coming week:

This Wednesday, June 30th, we will have WACKY WEDNESDAY! We’d like to invite all of our campers to wear their silliest, wackiest, goofiest outfit.
We will have a Talent Show on Friday! Please help your teen start thinking about what talent they’d like to bring in to share.
These blogposts will be released twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays.
Social media posts will be going up on Fridays. Be sure to follow our Instagram and our Facebook to see pictures of your teens!

Today we say goodbye to our 2019 KidsAct! and TeensAct! camps! It has been amazing summer, and we have loved working with all of your kids. Each and every session brought us tons of joy and laughter, and we could not have asked for a better summer. We will surely miss When I Grow Up I Will Be Naughty, For The Dreamers, The Case of The Missing Bride, The Spoon, Into The Woods…. 2, The Play That Went OOF, Plant Gorp: The Final Frontier, After The Meteor Hit, and Pest Control: Ratlandia. Every single one special and amazing in their own way. From all of us in the Education Department, we thank you.

On a personal note, it has been my absolute pleasure writing all of these blogs and updating you on our adventures. Thank You for taking your time to read. Thank You for sending your children to camp. Thank You. ~ Sophie

Avengers Endgame!

Today was an eventful day! We spent the day at Zion rehearsing and perfecting our shows on stage! It was also Pizza Day! So at lunch, we all took a well deserved break and enjoyed some delicious pizza. We are very excited to present three different, brand new shows! The Kids are very excited to perform Planet Gorp: The Final Frontier. Jane’s group will perform After The Meteor Hit! Sam’s group will present Pest Control: Ratlandia! Each show features some original heroes and villains, and we cannot wait to show the world!

I Am Inevitable!

Today was Super Villain Day! So we started the day with a Super Villain parade, so we could all show off our Super Villain Outfits! We saw a bunch of brand new villains, as well as some classics! Perhaps most importantly about today, all of our shows are finished! Every single group worked incredibly hard at their devising to finish their shows, and working on polishing! We are so excited about what these shows have become! Tomorrow will certainly be a day full of tons of hard work as we polish and rehearse for Friday!

Why Is You Crying?

Today was full of so much hard work! Every group is almost finished with their shows, and working hard on polishing them! With Sophie, each Teen group added some awesome super fights to their shows! They cannot wait to share them with everyone on Friday! All of our songs are done, and being staged and polished! The Kids added staging to What is This Feeling! Jane’s group perfected their staging for Extraordinary! Sam’s group worked on staging for Celebrate! We are all moving towards the end, and we cannot wait to share these shows!
